Cinemien is an independent, all-rights film distributor that has been combining professionalism with a passion for movies and a keen eye for new talent for over 40 years. In the Netherlands, Belgium, Luxembourg, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Liechtenstein, Israel, Spain, and Sweden, Cinemien releases films in cinemas, on DVD/Blu-Ray, Video on Demand, and TV.

Cinemien is located in Utrecht, and there is also an office in Frankfurt. Cinemien acquires films at major international film festivals, and the quality of films is a top priority in our acquisition policy. Several internationally acclaimed films have been brought to the public by Cinemien, and new, talented filmmakers have been given a chance. Cinemien continues to follow them throughout their careers.

A selection from the Cinemien catalog includes award-winning films such as Carol (Todd Haynes) and 45 Years (Andrew Haigh), Golden Palm winners Festen (Thomas Vinterberg) and La Pianiste (Michael Haneke), films by French director François Ozon: Sous le Sable, 8 Femmes, Swimming Pool, and Dans la Maison, successful German films Good Bye Lenin (Wolfgang Becker), Gegen die Wand (Fatih Akin), Die Fremde (Feo Aladag), Lore (Cate Shortland), and the Oscar®-winning film Das Leben der Anderen (Florian Henckel von Donnersmark), as well as groundbreaking Italian films Gomorra (Matteo Garrone), Le Meraviglie (Alice Rohrwacher), Il Divo, and La Grande Bellezza (both by Paolo Sorrentino), and films by Canadian super-talent Xavier Dolan: I Killed My Mother, Heartbeats, Laurence Anyways, Tom at the Farm, Mommy, and It’s Only the End of the World, along with Un Prophète by Jacques Audiard, the documentary Strike a Pose (Ester Gould & Reijer Zwaan), and Layla M., directed by Mijke de Jong.
