Cinemien Celebrates 50 Years of Independent Cinema!
10-03-2025
In 2025, Cinemien marks its 50th anniversary as a leading distributor of artistic and socially engaged films. What started in the 1970s as the Feminist Film Collective has evolved into a platform for independent cinema, with a strong focus on gender equality, diversity, and underrepresented stories.
To celebrate this milestone, the famous Amsterdam; Eye Filmmuseum is hosting a special program in March 2025, featuring iconic feminist films, rarely screened titles, and restored classics. This program highlights Cinemien’s early years and launches on March 8, International Women’s Day. Additionally, a selection from the Cinemien collection will be available online throughout the year.
Even in 2025, Cinemien continues its mission as an independent film distributor, bringing films that inspire, challenge, and spark dialogue. From LGBTQ+ stories to arthouse films, Cinemien delivers films that matter, straight to the big screen. Think of titles like Amal, as well as upcoming releases like Call Me Agnes and The Mattachine Family, each telling a unique and relevant story in their own way. Both will be in theaters from March 27!
Cinemien, the film distributor that is part of FOMO, remains dedicated to showcasing bold and meaningful cinema.
