Cinemien becomes part of OUTtv

As of July 1st 2021, Cinemien will continue its operations as part of OUTtv Media, creating a broad distribution organization for film theaters, online, and TV.

Over the past 45 years, Cinemien has grown to become the largest film distributor in the Benelux, with a focus on women, the LGBT+ community, and arthouse films. Due to accelerated digitization, the increase in the number of films released annually, shorter theater and cinema runs, and the effects of Covid-19, Cinemien can no longer continue as an independent organization. By integrating Cinemien into OUTtv, a powerful, multi-media organization is formed.

For OUTtv, expanding the theatrical network within a European context is important, with a focus on 360-degree exploitation in the countries where OUTtv is active. In 2018, OUTtv acquired the German LGBTQI+ film distributor, PRO-FUN Media GmbH. With the additional acquisition of Cinemien in the Benelux, OUTtv aims to strengthen its portfolio in the area of theatrical and digital exploitation. By combining Cinemien’s expertise with OUTtv’s marketing strength, the arthouse film enthusiast can be even better served. This collaboration will lead to a reinforcement of film and video exploitation, the promotion and release of films in theaters, on DVD / Blu Ray, and on TV, as well as digital exploitation through both existing and new OUTtv channels.
